In the beverage industry, one necessary step to take when building a facility is meeting FDA and USDA approved flooring regulations . So when the Rusty Bull Brewery took an old automotive shop and turned it into a brewery, we provided the professional flooring services to guide them through the process in meeting those federal government standards.
The food and beverage industry has mandatory environmental regulations for all operator’s floors due to the risks associated with handling food or beverage in unsafe or unsanitary conditions. This is especially true in a beverage manufacturing facility, as the yeast used to make alcoholic beverages contains microorganisms that naturally assist in the fermentation process. When there is a spill on an untreated floor, these organisms will seep into any small crevice or crack and grow into more bacteria overtime, thus creating more cracks and an unsanitary environment. epoxy floor system in the brewing area. Because of this, Rusty Bull knew they needed a FDA and USDA approved flooring system.
The application process was a FDA and USDA approved flooring industrial strength three coat epoxy broadcast system in the brew area, which would keep any and all bacteria and pathogens (from spills) from seeping into the concrete. The epoxy surface has the structural integrity to withstand abrasive cleaning procedures and cleaning chemicals, for when the brewery is sanitizing the work area. This seamless epoxy flooring system will provide premier protection from any spill, odorless and easy to clean surface and is a cost-effective solution as the lifetime of your floors is increase by 10 years.

Have you ever noticed a thin layer of moisture on your concrete floors in the morning? That condensation on your concrete means you have sweating floors. While your floors did put in a good hard day of work, the sweating floors are actually the result of a temperature change. On a humid night, the water vapor of a warm day comes in contact with the cooler ground, and condenses (on your floors) into morning dew. Unfortunately, the moisture build up isn’t your biggest problem. When the dew forms it draws out any grease or oil residue that have seeped into the concrete pores. The result is a slippery surface and a serious hazard for employees and machinery.
The U.S. Department of Labor reported that slips and falls account for over 95 million lost work days per year. Additionally, The National Floor Safety Council of America recorded nearly $70 billion is spent each year on medical expenses and workers’ compensation for slip and fall accidents. Don’t become a statistic and stop the problem before it develops with one of Nu-Safe’s proven floor safety strategies and products. While every floor is different and requires a visit to determine the proper solution, Nu-Safe’s anti-slip floor treatments/chemicals – RED-X, Maintain and Friction – are specifically designed to combat your sweating floors.
RED-X, Maintain and Friction are ‘High Traction’ anti-slip floor treatments/chemicals that draw out the grease and oil residues that build up in your concrete, helping to minimize these issues. These biodegradable anti-slip floor chemicals feature unique technology that increases the coefficient of friction on your concrete floors. The applied areas will now have a less slippery surface even when wet or contaminated, and there is no change in surface appearance.

Concrete is an inexpensive, durable and long-lasting material to use in the construction of any commercial property. The main problem though is it looks boring. It is cold, absorbs stains and can prove slippery when wet. Does that mean you should replace your concrete with a different material? Not at all. Replacing your concrete flooring, whether in the manufacturing plant or hallways through the building, is an unnecessary expense. Instead, you can make your commercial concrete look amazing by adding a simple polish or other easy to apply treatment.
With an epoxy application to your concrete, you instantly add a new level of protection to the flooring. Whether you go with a general epoxy or you decide to use an additive to ensure it improves the grip of the flooring, you will have a beautify, glossy looking floor. The epoxy protects the concrete and blocks out the natural pores of the stone mixture. This way, if there is a spill, whether water, oil or some other chemical, the flooring doesn’t absorb it, so you can avoid those unsightly stains.
Cleaning and taking care of your like-new concrete floor is easy as well. You can simply sweep the floor to remove the general dirt and dust. To give that beautiful polished concrete look, a floor buffer and wax takes the shine of the flooring to the next level. This way, you completely change the look of your commercial property, all without installing a new floor.
The best thing about your polished concrete flooring is you can select any color. There is no limit to the options, so if you want it to match your current color palette or if you want it to take on a unique, alternative color, it can happen. Certain acids and stains mixed together possess the ability to completely change the look of the concrete. This way, visitors won’t even know they are walking on a cement floor. It increase the attractiveness of your building without costing you a fortune.
It does not matter what sort of commercial property you own or what sort of work is done, if you have a concrete floor you can always transform the appearance into something beautiful. All you need to do is take advantage of the epoxies, stains, acids and other application options to transform your floor.

If you want your industrial floor professionally restored, the processes needs to be comprehensive so that your floors will be robust and in top condition for many years in the future. Carrying out surface preparation before applying industrial floor coating is regarded as the most crucial stage of resinous flooring applications, and if this is not done correctly and to professional standards, it could result in you suffering a costly, time consuming repair procedure.
In order to make your floors look the best they can be, surface preparation is carried out using grinding, shot blasting and scarifying techniques. For example, in the case of old concrete, the first job is ensuring that surfaces are structurally sound before the resinous installation. At this stage, grinding, shot blasting, sandblasting, and rough sanding are utilized to take away scale, loose concrete, and existing paint. If possible, a stripper might be employed to take off excessive sealer or paint build-up. The mechanical preparation of structurally sound concrete is done to eliminate all forms of contamination, and the top process for a first-class bonding profile is vacuum shot blasting.
Prior to the application of any Epoxy Flooring System products, your industrial floor surface has to be inspected for signs of vapor transmission. In the case of new concrete, your floor should be dry and well cured before it is coated, unless green concrete primer is utilized, the cure needs to last for at least 28 days. All laitance, grease, oil, or other unwanted material is removed, and steam cleaning is carried out using a heavy de-greaser. Mechanical methods such as grinding, scarification, and vacuum blasting, are employed to take away laitance and foreign material. When concrete is new, it can be prepared mechanically through grinding, scarifying, sand blasting, or vacuum shot-blasting, and it can also be acid etched.
De-greasing compounds or solvents are utilized to take away grease, oil, and other foreign materials, and then mechanical abrasion, sandblasting, or sanding is done to remove all rust and scaling.

Industrial floor buffers make it easy to remove skid marks, dust and restore the pristine shine of your floor. Whether in a hallway or out on the industrial floor, the buffer can make maintaining your facility much easier than ever before. However, it isn’t as simple as a vacuum. You don’t just plug it in and go. There are important steps you need to follow to ensure you not only remain safe while using it, but avoid costly issues with the flooring as well.
Inspect the Scrub Brush/Polishing Pad
If you are removing thick grime from the floor, you’ll need a scrub brush. If you are restoring a dusty floor to a pristine shine you’ll need a polishing pad. Either way, you need to inspect what is coming in contact with the flooring. If the polishing pad appears extremely used and soiled you’ll need to replace it. Dirty polishing pads may scratch your floor and damage the epoxy. The scrub brush can withstand a bit more use, but if the bristles are damaged and the brush corroded, you also need to replace it.
Start in a Corner
Some industrial floor buffers are electric based and work off of a charge while others must connect to a power outlet. More likely than not, as an industrial device, it works off of a charge. Regardless of what you have, start in a corner of the room furthest from the entrance. You don’t want to buffer yourself into a corner. If you walk directly over an area that has just been buffed you risk not only scuffing it back up but also denting the surface.
Applying the Polishing Cream
Like waxing a fine car, you’ll need a polishing cream for the floor. You have two different options for how to use the cream. You can either apply it directly to the pad or onto the floor. If the pad is new, it can hold a considerable amount, so applying it to the pad may work to your advantage. However, if you have used the pad a few times already, applying it to the floor may be best. Just don’t use too much polishing cream, otherwise you run the risk of making the floor too slippery.
When running the buffer, move laterally through the room and make sure to overlap your previously buffered area by a third in order to keep everything even.

A polished concrete floor is an excellent way to save money over other floor materials while using the current concrete in your building. That doesn’t mean you can simply leave the polished concrete floors alone for good. While polished concrete floors are extremely durable and can take just about anything you throw at it, it does require some general maintenance to keep it looking as beautiful as the day you had it done.
The beautiful thing about polished concrete floors is you can easily sweep and dust it with a dust mop. This helps maintain the pristine look of the flooring in your Charleston, South Carolina building. Wet mopping is a must as well. With a polished floor, it instantly reflects any dirt that might stick to the flooring. A water mop can do the trick when in a pinch, although taking advantage of a floor cleaner helps prevent dirt from sticking so you can spend most of the cleaning time sweeping instead of mopping.
Run a microfiber dust mop over the floor daily. Once a week or so you want to use the wet mop but make sure it is clean water. Mixing in the floor cleaner into the water gives you the extra cleaning power to keep your floors looking beautiful. Make sure the floor cleaning is a neutral formula designed to suspend dirt. This helps prevent the dirt from sticking to the floors.
Polishing the Floor
From time to time you will need to polish the floor to maintain the brilliant shine. When doing this, use an automatic floor scrubber using a nonabrasive pad. This cleans large areas of the flooring, which is great if you have a large surface area to clean. The wet mopping can replace the automatic floor scrubber in small areas or where the scrubber doesn’t reach. The two are interchangeable although the automatic floor scrubber is better if there are tougher stains that have not been cleaned in a while.
Cleaning Stains and Spills
It is important to try and clean spills or stains as quickly as possible. This prevents the absorption of the material into the floor. If you are cleaning grease or oil, give the floor cleaner some time to break down the stain. Let it sit before sweeping of vacuuming. However, you don’t want the cleaning solution to dry. Instead, clean small areas of the polished flooring.

Concrete is one of the strongest, most durable materials used in the construction and building industry. If you’re looking for a practical, industrial strength floor, polished concrete flooring systems provide an affordable solution that will hold up to the heaviest traffic.
Concrete floors are the perfect choice for large commercial and industrial buildings. They’re strong, durable and easy to maintain in warehouses, manufacturing facilities, office buildings, and retail establishments where daily traffic flow is extremely heavy. Concrete polishing will improve the quality of the floors and give them a beautiful, long-lasting surface that’s harder, stronger and stain resistant to water, oil and acids that can etch into bare concrete. It will also reduce maintenance and labor costs and extend the life of the floors by 10 years or more.
By hiring a professional who knows how to polish concrete, floors can be ground down and finished in satin or high-gloss finishes that provide the ultimate no-wax surface. Polishing concrete floors requires a lot of knowledge, skill and experience, so it’s important to hire a professional concrete polishing contractor to do the work. The process requires the use of special heavy-duty polishing machines that are equipped with diamond-impregnated disks. These disks gradually grind down the concrete floor surface to the desired degree of shine and smoothness. Penetrating hardeners which form a hard, crystalline structure are often applied after the first grinding process to strengthen the concrete and add protection from liquids and penetrating stains. Careful attention must be given to floor preparation, especially if existing concrete floors are old or damaged. Polishing without proper preparation may save you money up front, but your floors will be less that perfect and may need to be redone within a short time.
If structurally sound, both old and new concrete floors can be polished. For new floors, no special mix is required, but floors should be allowed to properly cure for at least 30 days before polishing begins. Existing floors typically require some surface preparation before polishing begins. All dirt, grime, grease, imperfections and existing sealers must be removed first. If floors are uneven, damaged, extremely porous, or need extensive repairs, special preparation, techniques, and expertise on how to polish concrete may be necessary for best results.
Concrete polishing offers many benefits and provides a beautiful, long-lasting finish. It’s a great way to create durable, stylish floors for any commercial space.

When it comes to concrete flooring, many people picture nothing but hard gray stone that offers an inferior, unfinished look. However, while cement and concrete are used in this manner, there are some truly incredible ways you can improve the look of your industrial floor without spending much money on the project.
Sure, if you have a concrete floor you can always leave it looking dull and gray. However, it is not going to defend against stains and slipping. That is why you need to consider finished cement flooring options. Polished concrete flooring, epoxy flooring, decorative flooring and other options provide you with different looks, textures and designs, all of which are less expensive than having a brand new floor installed and yet it provides a higher quality flooring opportunity.
Perhaps you don’t need anything too extensive but you’d like a different color to your concrete and want to move away from the hard cement look. A polished concrete flooring system works great for this. It offers a new color and makes the flooring look far from your ordinary cement and concrete floor. With this kind of look, you can improve customers while having a floor that is easy to maintain and easy to clean.
The epoxy concrete flooring system takes the traditional concrete flooring to the next level. There is an additional layer of epoxy placed on top of the flooring. This protects the concrete and prevents stains from forming on the floor. It is easier to clean up, which also allows you and your employees to avoid slips and injuries that might come from such a slip. Also, additional material can be mixed in with the epoxy. Small chips may be added to offer a bit more texture and grip to the flooring while also adding interesting designs to the flooring as well.
Whatever you look for, if you want to save money, improve the appearance of your industrial sight and still maintain an exceptionally beautiful looking facility, all you need to do is look at the different concrete flooring options. From stains to epoxy and resins, there is a way to improve the safety of your building, the appearance and the quality of the flooring without high costs.
